Art therapy

A creative, accessible way to explore feelings when words are hard.

What it is

Art therapy offers a creative and accessible way to explore feelings, experiences, and relationships when words alone may be difficult. It can be particularly helpful for children and young people, or for anyone who prefers an alternative therapeutic approach for their individual outlook and expression.

Through drawing, painting, and other creative methods, clients can express emotions safely and build insight at their own pace. This service supports emotional wellbeing, self-expression, and healing in a community setting.

Who it’s for

  • Children and young people who find talking directly difficult
  • Anyone who thinks and feels more easily through making than through words
  • People who would like a gentler, more creative way into therapy

What a session is like

Sessions are 50 minutes in a room set up with simple art materials — you do not need to be “good at art”, and nothing you make is judged. Some people talk while they work; some barely talk at all. The therapist is interested in what the making is like for you, not in interpreting it at you. You keep control of what you share.

How to start

You can enquire directly, or ask a school, GP or local authority to refer you. Mention this service and we’ll pick up from there.
